The Ballad of Annie and Joe

Dedicated to my Grandfather Harold Joseph Chisholm 1915-2005 This is the Ballad of Annie and Joe they were in love what did they know Joe was married to another girl but Annie she loved him for all the world Annie and Joe lived in Ballarat they came from different worlds but that was that She met him one night in a local bar she couldn’t have known it’d go too far Joe said to Annie “you know I love you” Annie said “Joe, you know I do too, but this is madness. I can’t have your baby not while you’re still married to her” So Annie decided to make some plans because she’d had enough. On a cold winter’s day she had a baby boy but then she had to give him up Joe went back to his lady wife. Annie changed her name and got on with her life. The baby boy was placed in foster care it was not an easy time for him there One day the boy met another young lad and that lad took him to his family. And that family gave him a name and a place and a home and a chance in the world that Annie just could not do for him So that baby boy grew up and had a family. Made the best life he could for him. He and his brother were like twins. Took care of each other through thick and thin So this is the ballad of Annie and Joe and the baby boy who was my grandpa. So I went on a journey through time, and I found out a few things that were mine, so thank you family for the signs, I’ll see you all on the Other Side 🩷 (C) Sorcha Chisholm 2025
