Today we're finally taking the latest Local Legend, the Aero Ae-45, up for a flight. With Oshkosh being held over the last week, I thought it was a fitting location for this video.
I'm sorry, that I haven't been active over the last few weeks, I barely spend any time in the sim. In this time the channel has surpassed 700 subscribers, thank you very much for that! I really, really appreciate the support and I'm glad that you like my videos =)
Now about the airplane, overall, I like the Ae-45, it's a unique design and since it's quite rare and not very well known, something I didn't expect to see in the sim. I think it's one of Aeroplane Heavens best releases so far. It looks great, the sounds are nice, there are plenty of nice effects and visual extras (like the removable cowling) and it is fun to fly as you can hopefully see in the video. The only negatives for me are that the cockpit textures look a bit cartoonish, especially on the Ae-145 and that there is currently a massive fps drop when taxiing over grass surfaces, but I'm sure that is something that will get fixed.
The Ae-45 wasn't built for aerobatics, but at least the sim version is very good at it. I always love watching videos of Bob Hoover with his Shrike, Matt Younkin with his Beech 18 or Dave Martin with his Baron and thought I would make a bit of a tribute video to this type of aerobatic flying, including single engine aerobatics...which I almost messed up at the end when I had to turn into the dead engine for the approach.
If you like unique vintage designs, I'm sure you're going to like the Ae-45 & Ae-145. There might be higher quality releases among the Famous Flyer and Local Legends series, but it's still a nice little airplane. You of course shouldn't expect a study level aircraft in this price range.
