Corrour , Scotlands most remote Mainline Station. Mountain Bike Ride to Corrour Station The Old Drovers Track to Corrour Station There are places in Scotland that feels a long way from anywhere. And then there’s Corrour. Today’s ride is a 15-mile mountain-bike adventure, following an old drovers’ track through the wild landscape towards Corrour railway station, deep in the Scottish Highlands. The track winds its way through open moorland, surrounded by mountains, lochs and almost complete silence. It’s easy to imagine the drovers who once travelled these routes, long before mountain bikes, roads and modern transport. As the miles pass, the landscape becomes more remote. There are no public roads leading to Corrour Station. No cars, no traffic, no easy way in. You can reach it by train, or on foot — or by Mtb. And then, almost unexpectedly, Corrour Station appears. Sitting at around 1,340 feet above sea level, Corrour is the highest railway station in the United Kingdom, and one of the most remote mainline stations anywhere in the country. It sits beside the West Highland Line, surrounded by the vast expanse of Rannoch Moor and close to Loch Ossian. It’s an extraordinary sight — a working railway station in the middle of what feels like wilderness. The station is served by ScotRail trains, and even the Caledonian Sleeper from London stops here. For a place this remote, there’s surprisingly plenty of history and character. The Station House has a seasonal café and restaurant, while nearby you’ll find accommodation including the converted signal box and Loch Ossian Youth Hostel. Corrour has even appeared on the big screen, becoming famous as one of the remote filming locations for the 1996 film Trainspotting. But standing here beside the railway, with the bike covered in dust from the old track, it’s the remoteness that really stays with you. A railway station with no road. A place reached by tracks, trails and determination. And after 15 miles in the saddle, Corrour Station feels like a pretty special destination, which has been on my bucket list for way to many years , Done . Now it’s time to turn the bike around and head back through the Highlands — leaving the railway, the moorland and the silence behind. Until the next adventure ATB K Aka Raven About Scotland .
