This video teaches Learning Outcome 4 of Unit 9 Planning a New Business Venture: how to secure funding for a new business venture. You will learn the sources of finance in the unit, including savings, loans, investors, share capital, flotation, crowdfunding and private equity, with the benefits and risks of each. We work through loan repayments, equity and dilution calculations and a weighted evaluation matrix with a sensitivity check, drawing on Berger and Udell, Myers and Majluf and Mollick. Cases include Monzo, Innocent Drinks and Airbnb. The second half covers the Distinction pitch: preparing facts, framing a story, practising answers, following up and revising, using research by Clark and by Kirsch and colleagues. The video is for learners on the ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Business and Management who must evaluate funding for their own venture.
