Akhenaten was the pharaoh who tried to replace every god in Egypt with one, and Egypt spent the next century erasing him. For a hundred years, historians believed his strange statues showed a deformed, diseased king killed by his own illness. Then they scanned the bones. In this video, we follow the heretic king from his new capital at Amarna, to tomb KV55 in the Valley of the Kings, where someone tore the face off his coffin and cut out his name, to the 2010 CT scans and DNA tests that identified him as Tutankhamun's father. You'll also see why the disease theory collapsed, what is still disputed, and why we still don't know how he died.
