Join me for a slow, peaceful day in my home village in rural Vietnam. We start the morning at the weekly Saturday market, where local people bring down what they grow, forage, and raise: seasonal vegetables and fruits, forest-grown roots, and homemade specialties. My favorite stop is the banh cha, a childhood treat I still love. It's made from rice flour mixed with sugar, chopped fresh scallions, and local seasonings (some places add a little pork fat or minced pork for richness). It's crispy outside, soft and chewy inside, lightly sweet and savory, and best eaten hot and freshly fried. We also grab some banh cuon. After a midday rest, my parents go to pick out and bring home 10 piglets to raise in time for Tet. In the evening, I help feed the chickens. We once had around 200, but after a recent illness outbreak on the farm, only about 20-30 are left. Farming has its hard days too. We end the day relaxing by the little stream where I swam as a kid. It's also near the Suoi Cham bamboo raft area, which many visitors enjoy. If you enjoyed it, please like, subscribe, and tell me in the comments: what would you like to see next?
