Should Boy child Learn About Periods? What Parents Should Teach Them and at What Age.

In this video, I discuss why boys should also learn about periods and the age parents can begin this important conversation. Teaching boys about menstruation is not only about helping them understand what may happen to their sisters. It can also teach them empathy, respect and how to respond appropriately if a girl experiences a period stain or discomfort at school. I share a personal experience from secondary school when boys laughed after noticing a period stain on my uniform, and how one informed child could have changed that situation. Parents can begin this conversation around ages 7–9, depending on the child’s maturity, using simple and age-appropriate language. Our sons do not need anyone’s private information; they simply need enough understanding to respond with kindness rather than teasing or embarrassment. Have you spoken to your son about periods?
