I Almost Rode Off a Mountain! | Smoky Mountain 500 Day 1 (Tellico Plains to Ellijay)

I thought Day 1 of the Smoky Mountain 500 would be a fun introduction to adventure riding. I was wrong. The ride from Tellico Plains, Tennessee, to Ellijay, Georgia turned into 152 miles of steep climbs, rocky trails, slick clay mud, and one crash that nearly sent my bike off the side of the mountain. As a newer adventure rider, this route pushed me far beyond my comfort zone—but that's exactly where the best stories are found. "You're gonna die doing something. Why not choose something fun?"
