FULL EVENT: US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth joins Asean ministers’ meeting in Cebu

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth is attending the 20th Asean Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ASMM) in the Philippine city of Cebu. Hegseth will reportedly join several bilateral and multilateral talks “to reaffirm America’s commitment to peace through strength in the Pacific”. His trip comes ahead of US President Donald Trump’s expected visit to China in November for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen, where he is expected to meet his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, for the third time this year.
