119 Benin Bronzes: The Netherlands is Focused on Collaborations Not Reparations - Deelen

The agreement is underway in the Netherlands to hand over 119 Benin Bronzes to the Nigerian Government. It will be up to the Nigerian government to decide what to do with these objects and when they will be repatriated to Nigeria. These Benin Bronzes originated from loot taken in 1897. While our focus is not on reparations, we believe there should be some form of collaboration between our museums regarding the management, operation, and training of museum staff.
