You keep pulling at the same thing. A monk noticed.
You are back at the same worry tonight, checking if it has grown enough yet, the way you'd check a wound to see if it has healed. You are gripping something in the dark that only wanted to be left alone with the sun and the water. But there is another way.
In this reflection, Master Wu Wei tells the story of a farmer who could not bear how slowly his rice grew, and knelt in the mud one night to pull each stalk toward the sun himself. From there he returns to Wu Wei, action without force, and to the river that carries the stone without ever gripping it. He sits with the idea that nothing you are holding tonight needs to be held so tightly, and closes, as he always does, by walking you toward sleep.
You are not behind.
In this reflection:
Why pulling at your own growth kills it faster than waiting ever could
What the river teaches about moving a stone without gripping it
Why tending and forcing feel the same in the dark but are not
The line the farmer needed to hear before his hands bled
Why there is no other field growing faster than yours to catch up to
What are you gripping tonight that only needs to be let go?
Tell the monk in the comments, and stay a while — subscribe if you want him waiting for you again tomorrow night.
