Environmental Regulation in the Fashion Industry by Dr. Meital Peleg Mizrachi

This lecture examines the role of environmental regulation in shaping sustainability outcomes in the fashion industry. While recent years have seen a proliferation of regulatory initiatives, many remain focused on disclosure and environmental metrics, often overlooking deeper structural dynamics such as production volumes, labour conditions, and global supply chain inequalities. Drawing on comparative policy analysis and empirical research, including work on second-hand markets and global textile flows, the lecture explores the limits of current approaches and highlights key gaps between regulatory ambition and real-world impact. Particular attention is given to how environmental regulation interacts with economic incentives and governance structures in both producing and consuming countries.
