Godavari floodwaters are surging near Polavaram in Eluru district, with heavy inflows from upstream areas amid the low-pressure system. Around 5,36,938 cusecs of floodwater is being released downstream through 48 gates of the Polavaram project. The water level at the Polavaram spillway has reached 30.72 metres, and officials expect the flood flow to increase further if heavy rains continue. The rising Godavari has also brought a significant increase in water levels across reservoirs in Eluru district. Yerrakalava Reservoir near Jangareddygudem received around 1 TMC of fresh water, taking its storage to 1.30 TMC. Water levels have also risen in the Kovvada, Jalleru and Tammileru reservoirs. Around 1,943 tanks and irrigation canals across the district are now filled with water. The improved water levels have brought relief to farmers who were concerned about water availability during the Kharif season.
