These are the 10 legendary British police cars of the 1960s and 70s — machines built to hunt down Britain's fastest criminals.
In the 1960s, Britain's criminals had a problem: getaway cars were getting faster, and so were the police. As the motorway network grew, police forces traded ordinary family saloons for genuine pursuit machines. From the Jaguar Mark II that became the most iconic police car of the era, to the Rover SD1 that patrolled motorways across England, Scotland and Wales, to the Lotus Cortina that chased criminals like a racing car in disguise — these are the cars that defined British police motoring. Some could top 125 miles an hour. Criminals genuinely feared them.
Which of these would you want to see in your rear-view mirror?
