Better Than We Ever Expected… || October 2026

After the terribly dry summer we've had here in the North Carolina foothills, we really didn't know what to expect from this year's corn harvest! Today we're taking y'all along from start to finish as Andy gets his New Idea one-row corn picker ready and heads to the field to harvest our Boone County White corn. From getting the equipment running to picking the corn and shoveling it into our makeshift corn crib (an old tobacco bulk barn!), there's plenty of work to be done. This corn will help feed our cattle through the coming months, and we couldn't be more thankful for how well it produced, especially considering the drought we've experienced this year. Farming sure has a way of keeping you humble. Some years you work so hard and come up short, and other times you're pleasantly surprised. We're just grateful for what the Good Lord has blessed us with. Thank y'all for coming along and being part of our lives here on the homestead. We appreciate each and every one of you! ❤️ #TrueGritAppalachianWays #CornHarvest #AppalachianFarming #OldFashionedFarming #Homesteading
