Manni is a classic dessert and is made out of rice cooked with coconut and flavoured with jaggery, nuts and cardamom powder.
Manni is one of the most loved and almost near extinction sweet preparations of Mangalore. Manni is very delicate & yummy and will just melt in your mouth. We love it at home, hence once a year it is Manni time.
But these days I don’t think anyone prepares it any more, as it takes a lot of patience and time. As you have to stir it continuously for nearly 30- 45 minutes to get the right consistency. Otherwise, you will not be able to cut it. Hence I used the word extinct.
The ingredients required are
1 Cup rice ( Idly rice / Mutombo tandu)
½ coconut. I have used the tender variety
Jaggery as per taste
Pinch of salt
A few cashew nuts (optional)
Cardamom pods
1-2 tsp of ghee
