The project is being implemented by the Kabul Municipality's Directorate of Works, Maintenance and Monitoring and is designed to improve traffic flow at one of the capital's busiest intersections. The project includes a modern vehicular flyover designed with: ✅ 6 traffic lanes — 3 lanes in each direction 📏 450 meters total flyover length ↔️ 28 meters width ⬆️ Approximately 7 meters in height 🔄 Two circular loop ramps as part of an interchange system 🛣️ Connecting side roads to help vehicles move between major routes with fewer conflicts and interruptions The two circular ramps are planned to be approximately 252 meters and 239 meters long, with radii of around 48 and 50 meters. 🚗 Why is this project important? The Minar-e-Nijat Intersection is one of the busiest traffic points in Kabul. It serves important routes and connects major transportation corridors, including the Kabul–Logar route, while also linking traffic toward areas such as Karte Naw, Pul-e-Mahmood Khan, and Bagh-e-Qazi. According to Kabul Municipality's traffic studies and technical assessments, the existing intersection does not have sufficient capacity to handle current and future traffic volumes. Heavy congestion in this area can cause long delays, increased fuel consumption, higher transportation costs, and additional environmental pollution. The new interchange system is designed to allow vehicles to move more smoothly between different routes while reducing traffic conflicts and congestion. 🏗️ Latest Construction Progress The design and technical studies for the Minar-e-Nijat Flyover were completed earlier in 2026. Preliminary construction work on the flyover and its two circular ramps began in July 2026.
