Today I'm reacting to Dr. Feelgood – "She Does It Right" live on The Old Grey Whistle Test from 1975 for the very first time! This was a Super Thanks request from @nicklittle8909, so thank you so much, Nick, for your continued support of the channel! Before doing this reaction, I had honestly never heard of Dr. Feelgood, and after watching this performance, my first thought was... how have I never heard of these guys? This is just pure, straight-ahead rock 'n' roll. It's fast, aggressive, energetic, and has that raw edge that feels like the missing link between classic rock and the punk explosion that was just around the corner. I can absolutely hear why people describe Dr. Feelgood as one of the bands that helped pave the way for punk. One of the biggest highlights for me was guitarist Wilko Johnson. His playing was fantastic, but what really caught my eye was his stage presence. The way he marched across the stage with those stiff, robotic movements while never missing a note was unlike anything I'd ever seen. It was entertaining, completely unique, and made him impossible to take your eyes off. Musically, this was just a lot of fun. There weren't any unnecessary frills—just a great band locked into a groove, playing with intensity from beginning to end. Sometimes that's exactly what rock music is supposed to be. After doing a little research, I found out Dr. Feelgood formed in 1971 in Canvey Island, Essex, England, and they became one of the defining bands of the British pub rock movement. Even though they never became huge internationally, they had an enormous influence on bands that came after them, especially the early punk scene. In many ways, you can hear the bridge between rock, rhythm & blues, and punk in performances like this. Overall, this is an easy thumbs up from me. I had a great time with it, and it's definitely made me want to hear more from Dr. Feelgood. Thanks again to @nicklittle8909 for the Super Thanks request! If you'd like to move your request closer to the front of the line, you can do that with a Super Thanks. There's a short video at the end that explains exactly how it works.
