Jumping on someone else’s track can be pretty intimidating when you're just starting out. So in this video, I wanted to share a few things I've been learning about how to do a guest verse and match another artist's vibe. I'm breaking down a few examples that inspire me: Switching up the energy: Like Kanye's verse on "That Part" or Kendrick on "Goosebumps"—how a feature can completely flip the feel of a song. Adapting to their canvas: How my approach changes when I'm writing for someone else's track versus building a song from scratch for myself. A quick breakdown: Taking a look at how I tried to put these ideas into practice on my favorite verse from a recent feature I did for "G L I D E". I’m definitely still figuring a lot of this music stuff out, so if you're making music too, let me know: What's the hardest part about collaborating for you? ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Timestamps ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 00:19 - Feature Influences 01:35 - Adapting to Their Canvas 02:41 - Determine Your Energy 03:50 - Favorite Featured Verse 05:32 - Quality Is Important 06:07 - Ensure You're Credited 08:38 - Promotion Is Not Your Job 11:18 - Asking to Feature 12:05 - Have a Transparent Profile 13:07 - Closing #Songwriting #MusicProduction #BehindTheMusic #HipHopCulture #IndependentArtist #GLIDE #howto #features #hiphop #rap #music
