Los Angeles, November 2019The Tyrell Corporation's headquarters dominates the eastern skyline, visible from nearly every district of the city. Originally constructed as a corporate research and administrative complex, the pyramid has since become one of the largest privately controlled structures on the West Coast. Its upper levels house the corporation's executive offices, genetic engineering divisions and restricted Nexus development facilities. The surrounding districts were gradually absorbed into the corporation's infrastructure. Entire neighborhoods now depend on Tyrell for electricity, water distribution, employment and housing. Most residents have never been inside the pyramid. Some have spent their entire lives beneath it. Down here, the streets haven't changed much. The same shops open every morning. The same vehicles occupy the service roads. People finish their shifts, buy groceries, pay their rent and return to apartments that overlook a building they will never enter. The corporation has outlived governments, economic crises and generations of its own employees. But life in the lower districts continues much as it always has. For those who grew up here, this isn't some distant dystopian future.
