Only here do we begin to understand what we are made of—a concern of paramount importance in the chaos of the present. On the surface, violence only satisfies its need for more violence, a perpetuating mechanism to be viewed as a gift from Nature. Beneath the intrinsic destruction that Nature reaps upon us is the revelation that we are merely its playthings being sorted out, bringing us closer to its state of perfection. With this, life itself assumes the air of an absurd game for a metaphysical audience we will never know. In our desperation to appear knowledgeable, we are the unwitting fodder of forces that consume us with silent indifference, forcing our evolution. On their ambitious 20-song full-length debut, MANGLED STATE plummets to the depths of misery and loathing, finding it a source of untapped inspiration. With Learn to Suffer, one gains a sense of life playing a joke on the living, the only purpose of which is the continuation of suffering. Herein, however, lies the spark of life—the audacity to exist under such circumstances, even if it serves little more than to reach the inevitable. If we are built of pain and agony, these terms are acceptable, for they unite us in our sense of duty. MANGLED STATE has revealed our truest nature. Stripped of sentimentality and unvarnished by delusions of humanist ideals, MANGLED STATE rampage through one song after the next, showcasing a pronounced development of style and execution from their two previous EPs. Learn to Suffer is replete with twists and turns, tempo shifts and a tortured vocal delivery by frontman J. Everett and grinding guitars of H. Walker, both of whom performed all of the instruments on the album. Recorded by J. Everett and mixed and mastered by Will Killinsgworth at Dead Air Studios, every moment exhibits a barbarity that presents Hardcore at its most hideous, resulting in a devastating assessment of existence—one that might benefit us to accept.
