Voxe: An electronic platform to introduce Patient-Reported Outcome Measures into clinical care

Anthony Lab at The Hospital for Sick Children and Collaborators CC-BY-NC-ND license Our video highlights Voxe, an electronic platform that incorporates Patient-Reported Outcome Measures, or PROMs, into clinical care. PROMs are questionnaires that help patients tell their healthcare team about their quality of life and how they feel. Voxe was created because pediatric patients told us that during clinic visits they “talk about what their doctor wants to talk about”. These findings were collected through a previous research study. The final version of Voxe is the outcome of evidence-based research, involving rounds of design and usability testing, as well as interviews with pediatric patients and their healthcare providers. The video spotlights why pediatric patients believe Voxe will positively change how care is delivered. It also aligns with the mission of the Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) to promote research that improves the health and development of children and youth in Canada. Pediatric patients said Voxe could help them communicate better with their team about health issues that are most important to them. Voxe also fits with IHDCYH’s strategic focus on the “process and integration of human development, including biological, behavioural and social factors”. PROM s can reveal interconnected biopsychosocial concerns that a patient’s healthcare team may not be aware of during clinical encounters. By transforming how care is delivered, Voxe is an innovative and creative way to capture and embrace patient voices.
