Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed a major uproar on Friday after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah moved a resolution seeking the immediate restoration of full statehood to J&K. The resolution also referred to earlier Assembly resolutions passed in 2000 and 2024. The reference to the 2000 autonomy resolution triggered strong objections from BJP legislators. BJP members entered the Well of the House, raised slogans and some tore copies of the resolution. The ruling National Conference and Congress members backed the statehood demand and countered with their own slogans. Omar Abdullah said delimitation and elections had already been completed and argued that the Centre should now fulfil its commitment to restore statehood.
