The American-built M3 Medium Tank was always intended as a stopgap solution between what was needed and what was currently available. Nonetheless, it would soldier on until the end of the war in some theaters, and was a massive boost to Allied power in the western desert when it first began tangling with the panzers that were no longer able to casually bounce Allied firepower. The M3 Lee was the original version, where the M3 Grant was modified during manufacturing for British requirements; both would be supplied to British forces across multiple fronts, and despite its immense size these M3 Mediums could wreak a bloody toll on the lighter, thinner Japanese tanks they faced.
