Nikon ZR vs Z8 Why I still prefer the Z8 for H.265

I love the Nikon ZR in R3D NE, but for H.265 I still prefer my Nikon Z8—so I set out to find out why, and whether that difference matters in a finished film. The ZR gives me a compact R3D NE workflow that I enjoy using, especially when travelling. But when I want smaller files and a faster edit, I keep reaching for the Z8. I look at skin, hair, fabric, foliage and fine detail; Z8 Extended Oversampling; the framing choices available at 100/120p; and what happens with spherical and DZOFilm ARCANA 1.5× anamorphic lenses. What interests me most is whether a difference survives grading, motion and normal viewing—not just an extreme zoom into one frame. The Z8 commercials I refer to were shot in 12-bit N-RAW / N-Log, not H.265. They show another part of the camera’s workflow.
