🏴 Welcome to Day 2 of our Scotland Road Trip!
Today we are exploring one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the UK — EDINBURGH! 🏰❤️
After reaching Scotland and visiting The Kelpies on Day 1, we dedicated our second day to exploring Edinburgh on foot.
And what a city! 😍
From medieval streets and colourful buildings to Edinburgh Castle and some incredible viewpoints, this turned out to be one of our favourite days of the Scotland trip.

🏰 EDINBURGH CASTLE
Sitting high above the city on Castle Rock, Edinburgh Castle is one of Scotland's most famous landmarks. The fortress has served as a royal residence, military stronghold and prison during its long history.
We explored the Castle area and Esplanade from outside rather than entering the castle itself.
🏴 THE ROYAL MILE
One of the most famous streets in Edinburgh, the Royal Mile runs through the historic Old Town between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Walking here gives you the real feeling of old Edinburgh — historic buildings, narrow closes, shops, restaurants, street performers and beautiful architecture.
🌈 VICTORIA STREET
Probably one of the most photogenic streets in Edinburgh!
Victoria Street is famous for its curved street, colourful shopfronts and historic architecture. Harry Potter fans may also recognise why this part of Edinburgh is often associated with the magical atmosphere of Diagon Alley.
🍻 GRASSMARKET
Located beneath Edinburgh Castle, Grassmarket was historically a marketplace for cattle and horses and was also associated with public executions.
Today it is completely different — a lively area filled with pubs, cafés, restaurants and independent shops, with fantastic views towards Edinburgh Castle.
📸 THE VENNEL VIEWPOINT
If you want one of the classic photographs of Edinburgh Castle, add The Vennel to your itinerary.
The steps rising from the Grassmarket area give you a beautiful framed view of Edinburgh Castle above the Old Town — and it's a great little photography stop.
🐶 GREYFRIARS BOBBY & GREYFRIARS KIRKYARD
One of Edinburgh's most loved stories.
Greyfriars Bobby became famous for his loyalty to his owner, with the little dog traditionally said to have spent years near his master's grave after his death.
Today you can see Bobby's bronze statue near Greyfriars Kirkyard and explore the atmospheric historic graveyard nearby.
🌇 CALTON HILL
We finished our Edinburgh exploration at Calton Hill.
The short climb rewards you with panoramic views across Edinburgh, including the Old Town, Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat.
It is also home to several famous monuments, including the unfinished National Monument of Scotland and Nelson Monument.
