The Story: Stu's Famous Willow Grub - AKA - The Banana Fly 🍌

2023 marks 20 years since Stu Tripney - fly designer, fly tier, author, creative and fly fishing geek - first came up with the concept of the original Willow Grub fly! Stumped by some fussy fish on the South Island of New Zealand, Stu made it his mission to imitate the little grubs falling from the willow trees with a fly....which actually worked! The smallest and most simple fly in the Stu's Superior Flies range, but one which took years of experimenting, iteration and creativity to perfect, it's a design which revolutionised fishing in NZ and bought us the joy of goin' Grubbing 🤠 Enjoy hearing the story of Stu's Famous Willow Grub - A fly for the history books!
