Murug Turug Eco Tourism: 7 Waterfalls Hike

Overnight hiking trip to the recently reopened Murug Turug hiking trails in Tamparuli, Sabah. The hike on Day 1 was relatively easy as we hiked 2.2km mostly downhill towards Murug Turug waterfall. Along the way we passed Kionop and Kiolungan waterfalls. We opted for the overnight camping option and spent the night in one of the few wooden huts near the waterfall. After an early breakfast the next morning, we began our 'Package C' hike which brought us on the longest of the 3 trails at Murug Turug. Along the way to the peak of Malas Kalas hill, we could see the majestic Malas Kalas waterfall cascading down the hillside. The hike to the peak wasn't as tough as we expected despite the hill appearing to rise almost vertically from the valley. From the peak we descended back into the valley and passed Minansor 1, Minansor 2 & Labuan waterfalls before eventually finding our way back at Murug Turug waterfall. After a cool relaxing soak in the natural pool at the foot of Murug Turug, we packed our camping gear and hiked back to the starting point. The total distance of the hike on Day 2 was 10.5km. Overall trail difficulty = 6/10 Steepness = 5/10 Scenery = 7/10 Leech encounters = 0/10 Basic facilities = 7/10 Trail guides = 8/10 Tips: The package C trail is the only trail where you'll get to hike to all of the seven waterfalls in the valley Opt for the camping package and spend the night at Murug Turug so you'll have more time to enjoy your time at the waterfall If you're spending the night at Murug Turug waterfall, you can lighten your load by not bringing your own tents . The sheltered wooden huts should provide enough shelter. Just bring some sleeping bags & maybe a mosquite netting to protect you from bugs as you sleep You can leave most belongings at the huts during you hike the next day.
