They Found the Answer to the Great Pyramid’s Hidden Door
A robot crawled about 200 feet up a tunnel inside the Great Pyramid that is roughly eight inches wide, and at the top its lamp landed on a polished slab of white Tura limestone with two copper pins set into it. A finished door at the end of a shaft no human body could ever climb. In this one I go through what is actually behind it: a second rough stone sitting less than eight inches away, a matching door found on the opposite side at almost exactly the same distance, and then in 2011 a bendy camera that curled round and saw the back of that door for the first time in 4,500 years. The part that gets me is that the back is polished too, and the copper pins pass straight through the slab and end in tiny finished loops a few millimetres wide, too small to do any mechanical job at all. Somebody did careful finishing work on a surface facing sealed darkness. I will be honest about where I land on this, the air shaft idea was always nonsense since these are blocked at both ends, and the Badawy and Trimble star alignments make far more sense of it, the southern shaft pointing at Sirius and the northern one at the stars that never set, which Egyptian texts call the imperishable ones. If the shaft is a road then the door is a gate on it, and the back was always meant to be seen, just not by us. There is also the cedar strip Dixon pulled out of the northern shaft in 1872, lost for over 70 years in a Scottish storeroom until someone spotted an old Egyptian flag on a cigar tin in a box of Asian objects, and when it was finally dated it came back around 500 years older than the pyramid itself. And the thing I cannot let go of is that last November Zahi Hawass stood in front of an audience and promised a sealed door at the end of a new 30 metre corridor would be opened this year, the year is nearly done, and nothing has been published. Before anyone gets excited, remember Hetepheres, Khufu's own mother, whose sealed alabaster sarcophagus was lifted in front of invited guests and turned out to be completely empty.
