. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1935 recording of the tango ('On the Fifth Floor') composed by Linde (??) with Polish lyrics by Stanisław Woliński, made by Tadeusz Faliszewski, vocal and Syrena Electro orchestra, instrumental part. The record has a special personal meaning and value for me, not only that it has unquestionable beauty and charm, both in a music line and in lyrics contents but also because it was offered to me as a gift, years back, by my then close friend, Wanda W. who had owned, after her parents, a huge collection of the pre-war Polish records (I had a chance to play and to listen to them many times). My friendly donator passed away a few years ago. - "You had the beauty of spring then The velvety down of a young rose I loved your charm and your race And every elegant, soft movement of yours And when our lips intertwined in intoxication We walked for happiness to the gates of paradise Into endless love, drowning in oblivion And it was so strangely good for us On the fifth floor, in my little room Where a bouquet of roses stood on the table We drank nectar in my little room In a quiet corner Far from the storms And the emerald light that little lamp emits Which saw the flower of my happiness When I kissed your little lips ... But it's been a long time, so many, so many years." Transl. JP * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
