Floyd Hamilton was more than the brother of Barrow Gang outlaw Raymond Hamilton. He carried supplies and messages to Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, later became Public Enemy Number One, and eventually landed inside America’s most infamous federal prison.
In April 1943, Hamilton and three other inmates escaped through a window in the Alcatraz industries building and entered the freezing waters of San Francisco Bay. Guards recovered two men and lost another. Hamilton simply disappeared. Warden James Johnston announced that he had drowned—but Hamilton was still hiding in a shoreline cave beneath the prison. What happened next forced Alcatraz to correct its own death record.
This documentary traces Hamilton’s journey from West Dallas and his connection to Bonnie and Clyde through bank robbery charges, Leavenworth, Alcatraz, parole, and redemption. In 1967, a full presidential pardon restored his civil rights under President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Discover the forgotten outlaw who escaped Alcatraz, vanished beneath the island, and lived long enough to receive a presidential pardon.
