Some cars catch your eye. Others stay with you for a lifetime. In this weeks story Adam Poulton talks to Mike who as a boy, was already fascinated by the Sunbeam Tiger — there’s even a childhood photograph of him proudly wearing a Tiger T-shirt. Then came the moment that really cemented the dream: seeing a Sunbeam Tiger at Southend Airport. But it would be 25 years before that childhood fascination finally became reality. In 2005, he bought the car he’d wanted for all those years — a beautiful 1965 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1A. Born from the elegant Sunbeam Alpine but transformed by the addition of Ford V8 power, the Tiger became one of Britain’s most exciting sports cars — and developed an especially important connection with America.
