Whiskers Tale is a game where you play as a little cat named Whiskers in a city and you can explore and do quests as a kitty. This is the Whiskers Tale demo, I played and recorded my first time in the game when it released on Friday 19th December 2025 for one hour. If the developers are watching any videos of people playing their first demo of this game and wanted any feedback, I will leave my first impressions here in the description to read. I had been watching the development of this game through Instagram and was excited for the demo, and I played it right away as soon as I could.
It is such a cute idea to play as a little cat you can customize so much. I really appreciate all of the body and face options and how many different colours there are to pick from. No criticism there, its really neat how you can make your cat look the way you want it to. If I was to add a suggestion on this part, maybe a tortoiseshell or calico pattern. A black and orange tortie option would make it feel like I'm playing as my current cat irl, but for now I was able to make a past cat I had just fine and it looks just like her! If you guys wanted to add even more new features onto the customizable section, maybe long fur or hairless options would be cool to add if you needed more ideas for it. Loved all of the current patterns and having this many already is great, I was worried there would be too few but this variety was impressive to see on the demo. I can recreate almost all of my families irl cats in this demo already which is really cool! Bravo
For gameplay, I liked it for the most part. The little cartoony animals wandering around made the world feel less empty and the quest idea was interesting. Though for the first quest, I had to stop and look up the location for it after searching around for a bit. Maybe some sort of lighting or scent system or clearer path would have made it easier to know where I was going without flat out telling me or leaving it without directions.
The bird quest was funny and climbing was nice, though I noticed some vines weren't able to be climbed, which could confuse players as they were told that vines can be climbed. I'm not sure if the quest worked, I found 3 birds but the man who gave the quest didn't say anything when I found them. I was unable to look up any videos of people finishing the quest, so I moved on to see what else was around. The husky dogs were cute, and the hamster too. Though I fell through the map.
Bugs are to be expected in demos, but pressing 0 did not work as a respawn. I tried "o" as well in case thats the way the font was, but neither option worked to respawn my cat after this glitch. I kept trying pushing and holding buttons and keys and had to press main menu which made me lose all progress, but I felt like I did everything I could find in this demo so far so I ended it there.
One more thing to say would be the text visuals. As a dyslexic person it was difficult to read the moving text and coloured text, and some of the text disappeared or shrunk before I could try reading it. It took me a while to read some of the text because it kept shrinking or flashing colour. Admittedly I did not check settings before playing, so I dont know if there was an option to make the text stay still. If there is that option I will click it next time I play this. Flashing text and text bouncing or shrinking before reading made it a little tricky to keep the flow of the game going.
For audio, the music is so calming and I like the sounds. The random meowing got a little distracting or confusing, and made me jump sometimes because it was loud haha. A button to press to meow by yourself would be better in my opinion, especially for players who make videos of your game who dont speak. Buttons for meowing kind of help with that, like meowing when something cool happens instead of the meow sound effects being randomized.
Other than these few things, the rest of my thoughts on this demo are positive! Very fun and cozy with pretty visuals. The one flowery alleyway was probably my favourite area, it looked nice and calm. I look forward to improvements made and am excited to see where this game goes in the future, its very cute and was relaxing to play.
