Now that I've played every character once, we're looping back around to do everyone's Blue Path. I'll keep doing this until there's no more stories to play. Doing it like this also gives some variety for playing, instead of if I played ALL of Ieyasu's paths at once. I won't be doing the Gray Path with every character however. The only ones worth doing that with are Magoichi and Oichi anyways. They're the only ones with actual story in those paths.
Now that I'm back to playing Ieyasu, I can tell he's sort of not great by comparison to other characters. He's not bad, don't get me wrong, but it took me twice as long to do things as it did for some of the other characters I just finished playing while coming back to this game. He can get good damage if his moves are charged, but charging just takes forever. And all it takes is one poke from a peon and then you've lost your charge and wasted everyone's time. His entire moveset is centered around charging, so this is a persistent problem.
His 2nd R2, Hard Head, is a bit too good though. It pretty much ruins enemy officers and stunlocks them. I start relying more on that towards the end and probably will keep doing so when playing his other paths, because Ieyasu has 4 paths in the game.
