How did early humans really spend their days? For centuries, textbooks told us that life before farming was brutal, short, and desperate. But the evidence buried underground tells a very different story.
In this video, we follow the science from ancient skeletons in the Middle East to the Kalahari Desert, where anthropologists counted the working hours of some of the last hunter gatherers on Earth. The result was shocking: about 15 to 20 hours of work per week. That means your ancestors may have worked less by the end of Tuesday than you do by Wednesday afternoon.
We also explore what they did with all that free time, from making shell beads and carving flutes to sharing stories around the fire, where human culture may have been born. Then we look at how farming changed everything and slowly turned free hours into work hours.
