That question stayed with me after researching the 2008 Lakeland revival, where seventeen apostles stood with Todd Bentley. In the first video of my three-part series on the New Apostolic Reformation, I look at what C. Peter Wagner meant by “apostolic governance,” how modern apostles are recognized, and what kind of authority the Bible gives them. I also talk about why this research has been difficult for me. Some of these leaders shaped my faith, and I believe many sincerely wanted to bring unity and safety to a splintered church. I’m charismatic, and I believe apostolic ministry can continue. That makes the question more personal: when someone claims the title, how do we know what it means—and who can hold them accountable? Part two will examine NAR beliefs.
