A brand-new bridge is rising over the River Ravi — and it won't just cross the
river, it will connect the old and new faces of Lahore forever!
In this video, we take you on a complete on-site tour of this mega project
developed by the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA), part of the ambitious
plan to build an entirely new "Ravi City" along the riverfront.
📍 LOCATION:
After crossing the old Ravi bridge toward Lahore's New Fish Market (along Lahore
Ring Road), you reach a gate — the Ravi on your left, the Fish Market ahead, and
the Ring Road leading straight to Lahore Airport on the right. This entire zone
falls under RUDA's Package 7.
🌉 BRIDGE DETAILS:
• Length: Approx. 1 kilometer
• Width: 60 feet — double lane with two separate carriageways
• Two 6-foot walkways on both sides for pedestrians
• A strong pre-stressed concrete structure designed for heavy traffic and a
service life of over 100 years
• Post-tensioned pre-stressed concrete girders resting on large piers over deep
pile foundations
• Connects Lahore Ring Road (near Chahar Bagh) in the south to the Sapphire Bay
Zone in the north, continuing toward Jahangir's Tomb, Noor Jahan's Tomb,
Shahdara Police Station, Shahdara Chowk, and Shahdara Flyover.
🏗️ CONSTRUCTION & PILE TESTING:
We explore the fascinating pile-testing site — heavy machinery, cranes,
excavators, a fully functional boring machine, and worker accommodation
containers. Learn how the 2-meter diameter, 35–36 meter steel cages are built,
how the role of Bentonite powder keeps the borehole walls from collapsing, and
how load testing with numbered blocks determines the soil's load-bearing capacity.
Phases:
1️⃣ Pile testing & foundation
2️⃣ Piers & girder installation
3️⃣ Deck & road construction
Estimated completion: 2–3 years (unofficial sources).
❓ WHY THIS BRIDGE MATTERS:
🏛️ Tourism & Heritage — Direct access to Mughal-era treasures including
Jahangir's Tomb (built 1627), Noor Jahan's Tomb, Akbari Sarai, and Asif Khan's
Tomb in historic Shahdara.
🚦 Traffic Relief — A modern alternative route easing congestion on the old
Shahdara bridges for traffic from Islamabad, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and northern
Punjab.
🏙️ Protecting the City — Diverting through-traffic via Ring Road, saving
commuters 15–30 minutes per trip and thousands of rupees monthly in fuel.
✨ BEYOND THE BRIDGE:
A beautiful River Promenade, a new bridge ramp, dedicated access roads to
Jahangir's Tomb, organized car parking, heritage-style shops, landscaping, and
pedestrian bridges linking all the historic monuments for a complete walking tour.
📈 ECONOMIC IMPACT:
Rising property values in Chahar Bagh and Sapphire Bay zones, growing investor
confidence (including overseas Pakistanis), thousands of jobs, future commercial
hubs, tourism growth, and new opportunities for women and youth in hospitality
and retail.
