One Light, One Softbox, Dramatic Black & White Portraits at Home

In this video I break down how I created a series of moody, high-detail black and white portraits using nothing but a single light in my home studio. The whole look comes from one 1x1m softbox placed behind the model. To keep the light controlled, I taped a black piece of card across the front of the softbox to act as a flag — this stops any unwanted spill hitting the short side of her face. I also killed all ambient room light so the only thing in the frame is the light I actually want. To stop the light wrapping around her and keep those shadows deep and clean, I placed two negative fill panels either side of the model. Camera settings:ISO 100Shutter speed 1/200sAperture f/11 (stopped down to hold as much detail as possible) Once the setup was locked in, it was just a case of dialling the flash power up and down until I got the look I was after.
