Nurse Accused Of Pulling The Plug On 78-Year Old—Then Trying To Take His $430k Home

What began as a caregiving relationship eventually lead detectives into a disturbing investigation involving Linda Polk, 78-year-old Steven Zarnowitz, a disputed power of attorney, a questioned quitclaim deed, credit cards, and allegations surrounding his Macomb Township home. Linda Polk had been hired by Steven Zarnowitz to provide in-home care for his wife, Jill Margolick. But after Steven suffered a stroke in October 2024 and was placed on life support, prosecutors alleged that Polk presented herself as his niece, claimed authority through a fraudulent power of attorney, and participated in the decision to remove him from life support. Steven died on October 19, 2024. But his death was only the beginning of the investigation. Authorities alleged that Polk subsequently used a quitclaim deed to transfer Steven and Jill's home, opened and used credit cards in Steven's name, and committed other financial offenses. Polk tells investigators that *“there's nothing to hide.”* She says Steven told her the house was supposed to go to her. The first-degree murder charge was later **dismissed by a Macomb County Circuit Court judge**, who found insufficient evidence supporting the murder charge and concluded that Steven Zarnowitz died from natural causes following his stroke. Prosecutors appealed that decision. On **July 15, 2026**, the Michigan Court of Appeals granted the prosecution's application for leave to appeal.
