I am continuing to work toward my first solo flight. It is very challenging and I struggling with maneuvers and landings. I am making slow progress. Please like, subscribe, and comment with any thoughts or advice! ​ ⁨@TarzanIstann⁩ Turns around a point: The objective is to fly two or more complete circles of uniform radius around a prominent ground reference point. Pilots enter the maneuver on a downwind heading to immediately establish the maximum bank angle (typically up to 45°). As the aircraft turns toward the upwind side, the bank is gradually shallowed to the minimum required to maintain the radius, then steepened again as the aircraft returns to the downwind heading S Turns across a road: This maneuver consists of a series of opposite, equal half-circles on either side of a straight-line ground reference, such as a road. Pilots cross the reference line perpendicular to it, immediately rolling into a turn. Wings are level for one to two seconds as the aircraft crosses the line again, before banking in the opposite direction. The bank angle increases to a maximum when crossing the line on the downwind side and decreases to a minimum when crossing on the upwind side, ensuring the apexes of the semicircles remain equidistant from the reference line The landing process is typically divided into three critical stages: Approach, Flare (or Roundout), and Touchdown/Rollout. Each stage requires precise control of airspeed, descent rate, and aircraft attitude to ensure a safe transition from flight to ground operations. The Approach is the stabilized descent toward the runway, where the pilot aligns the aircraft with the centerline and establishes a constant glide path, typically at a 3-degree angle. During this phase, the aircraft is configured with landing gear extended and flaps set to increase drag and lift, allowing for a controlled descent at a specific reference speed (usually 1.3 times the stall speed). The pilot focuses on a fixed aiming point on the runway; if this point appears stationary in the windscreen, the approach is stable. Power and pitch are continuously adjusted to maintain the correct airspeed and descent rate, compensating for wind and other variables. The Flare, also known as the Roundout, begins approximately 10 to 20 feet above the runway for light aircraft (higher for jets). In this transitional maneuver, the pilot smoothly raises the nose to increase the angle of attack, which generates additional lift to arrest the descent rate. The objective is to transition from a descending flight path to a level attitude just inches above the surface while allowing airspeed to decay. Power is reduced to idle, and back-pressure on the controls is gradually increased to "hold off" the touchdown, ensuring the aircraft settles gently onto the main landing gear rather than dropping heavily. Touchdown occurs when the main landing gear makes contact with the runway, ideally at the minimum controllable airspeed just as the wing stalls. The aircraft should be in a nose-high attitude to ensure the main wheels touch first, protecting the nose gear. Immediately following contact, the Rollout (or deceleration) phase begins. The pilot maintains full back-pressure to keep weight on the main wheels for maximum braking effectiveness, while using brakes, spoilers, and reverse thrust (if available) to slow the aircraft.
