Can you actually air-condition an RV, van, camper, or trailer directly from a 12V battery — without running a 120V inverter?
In this video, I’m installing and testing the GIDROX 12V DC RV Air Conditioner, a rooftop AC unit designed to operate directly from a 12V battery system.
But I’m not stopping at installation. I want to know what matters in the real world: How many amps does it actually pull, how loud is it, how well does it cool, and most importantly — can a reasonably sized 12V LiFePO4 battery keep it running overnight?
I take you through the complete project from opening the box to actually sleeping with it running.

One of the biggest advantages of a 12V DC air conditioner is eliminating the conversion from battery DC → inverter AC → air conditioner. For RVs, vans and other battery-powered systems, that can make for a much simpler setup.
But air conditioning is still a major electrical load, so the real question is whether the efficiency is good enough to make overnight battery-powered AC practical.
That’s exactly what we’re testing.
