First Profession | Yes to Christ | I Belong to Jesus

On 25th January, 2021 on the feast of St Paul the Apostle, https://tinyurl.com/y2bluwv9 two Novices of the Daughters of St Paul made their first profession committing their life to Jesus . https://tinyurl.com/y4l8psd5 First profession is the first yes of the person to Jesus https://tinyurl.com/y4su5za9 whom one is called to follow and imitate. https://tinyurl.com/y6mxvztu By first Profession the person becomes a member or a member of the religious institute in which she or he belongs. https://tinyurl.com/yyv23e4h Before the first profession the person is given opportunity for a solid spiritual, doctrinal, and psychological formation and also the opportunity to know the socio-cultural situation of the surrounding in which one is called to live. After a thorough religious, academic and spiritual preparation for a certain number of years a candidate makes a free and conscious choice and decision to follow Jesus for all her life. After the long years of intense prayer, reflection and interiorisation on the vows of Chastity, Poverty and Obedience with its various aspects and challenges the candidate makes a free and radical choice to follow Jesus through the first profession. By the vow of Chastity the candidates abandon the right to get married and raise a family and opt to love the entire humanity considering them as their brothers and sisters. By the vow of obedience the candidates renounce the will to decide for self and seek to discern the will of God coming to them through the authorities and obey their decision in dialogue and collaboration. In Poverty the candidates surrenders the right to inheritance and ownership of property and give up all types of possession, and possess Jesus whom they are called to follow. First Profession calls courageous men and women to follow Jesus unconditionally by living in a community. First profession is considered a prophetic witness today as there is great resistance of many to making a commitment. In first profession the member publicly profess to live a life of commitment to God bound by the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. By first profession one makes her commitment to Jesus. First profession is an alliance with Jesus, who is the model to imitate. By first profession a member is assured full support of the community to live a conscious committed life. By first profession one tirelessly searches for the will of God. First Profession is also an opportunity for conversion and reconciliation because along the road there will be the space where one will encounter temptation. First profession calls for a life of solitude with God. In first profession the Congregation makes a promise to support the professed member and encourages her to live the religious commitment in a fitting manner. In first profession the religious commits herself to live in total surrender of the whole being to God according to the way of life indicated in constitutions of the institute. First profession calls for a conscious living of the vows and the promise made to God to be faithful to the Charism of the institute. First profession calls for a permanent attitude of conversion and reconciliation, for the person knows that fidelity rests in God.
