What does grocery shopping in Iran really look like? 🇮🇷 Come along with me as we explore a supermarket in Tehran, compare everyday grocery prices, and spend a cozy evening enjoying a traditional Iranian family dinner! 👀🤍 Hi everyone, I’m Lily! In today’s vlog, I’m taking you along for another day in my life in Iran. We’ll walk around the supermarket, look at different grocery products, and compare prices so you can get a better idea of the cost of everyday life here. After shopping, we’re heading to my mom’s house for a homemade Iranian dinner. ❤️ My mom is an amazing cook, and tonight she’s making one of our family’s favorite meals: chicken and fried eggplant with Persian rice. We’ll sit together around the table, enjoy some delicious homemade food, and share a little piece of our family life with you. I hope this vlog gives you a glimpse into everyday life in Tehran and the warmth of an Iranian family gathering. —————— 🍗 Traditional Persian Chicken & Fried Eggplant with Barberry Rice (Morgh o Bademjan ba Polo) This comforting Iranian meal combines tender chicken in a rich tomato and saffron sauce, golden fried eggplant, and fragrant Persian rice topped with tart barberries. Ingredients For the chicken and eggplant 4 chicken pieces (thighs or breast) 2 medium eggplants 1 large onion, sliced 2 tbsp tomato paste 2 tomatoes, chopped (optional) 1 bell pepper, sliced (optional) ½ tsp turmeric Bloomed saffron Salt and black pepper, to taste Vegetable oil for frying For the rice 2 cups Persian or basmati rice ¼ cup dried barberries 1–2 tbsp butter 1 tsp sugar (optional) Bloomed saffron Salt and oil How to make it Prepare the eggplant: Peel the eggplants if you like, slice them, sprinkle with salt, and let them sit for about 20–30 minutes. Pat them dry, then fry until golden and tender. Set aside. Cook the chicken: Sauté the onion until golden. Add the turmeric, tomato paste, salt, pepper, and chicken. Cook for a few minutes, then add the tomatoes, bell pepper, saffron, and enough water to make a sauce. Let it simmer: Cover and cook over low heat until the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened. Add the fried eggplant toward the end and let it simmer gently so it absorbs all those delicious flavors. Make the rice: Rinse the rice, boil it in salted water until partly cooked, then drain and steam it with a little oil until fluffy. Mix a little rice with bloomed saffron for the golden topping. Prepare the barberries: Gently sauté the barberries in butter for a minute or two. Add a little sugar if you prefer a milder, sweeter flavor, being careful not to burn them. Serve: Arrange the fluffy rice on a platter, top it with saffron rice and barberries, and serve with the chicken, rich tomato sauce, and fried eggplant. Enjoy! 🤍 —————— I hope this vlog feels like spending a little day in Iran with me.
