Arthur C. Clarke: "Why Aliens Will Be Far Superior To Humans" (1972) | The Dick Cavett Show

"The idea that we are the most intelligent beings in the universe is statistically improbable." In this classic 1972 interview on The Dick Cavett Show, legendary science-fiction visionary Arthur C. Clarke (author of '2001: A Space Odyssey') discusses the mathematical likelihood of extraterrestrial life. Clarke challenges the human ego, explaining why any civilization we encounter would likely be thousands—or millions—of years more advanced than our own. From the ongoing search in astronomy to the philosophical implications of first contact, Clarke provides a chilling and profound look at our place in the cosmos. Joined by journalist Cassie Mackin, Clarke dives into: Why we haven't found "them" yet. The evolution of intelligence across the universe. Why alien technology would appear as "magic" to us.
