Sada Standoff: Murgaoncho Raja Demolition Drive Postponed After Locals Resist

The demolition drive at the Murgaoncho Raja site in Headland-Sada was postponed on Friday after local residents strongly opposed the action. The demolition squad arrived with heavy police deployment to implement the Bombay High Court’s directions. The MMC Chief Officer, to whom the directions had been given, was absent, reportedly due to hospitalisation, and another municipal officer was deputed to conduct the proceedings. Mormugao Mamlatdar Shri Pravinjay Pandit appealed to the locals to cooperate with the authorities. However, residents requested that the demolition be deferred until the completion of Ganesh Chaturthi, which is approaching. The situation turned tense during the discussions, with some protesters making extreme statements, including threats of self-harm. Following the standoff and discussions, the demolition drive was ultimately postponed.
