Bo's head is stuck in the honey pot… and the honey is ALL GONE! Then a fuzzy little bee buzzes up: "I can make you more!" Hum the honeybee takes Bo and Pip the frog through the whole honey kitchen: sipping nectar with a straw tongue, the secret honey tummy, a hundred flowers, passing it mouth to mouth (with a tiny drop of bee spit!), the six-sided wax cup, fanning it all night, and the wax lid. Is it ready yet? Not yet!
What kids learn:
• Nectar is the sweet juice inside flowers. A bee sips it with a long tongue, like a straw.
• The bee keeps it in a special pocket, the honey tummy, and visits about a hundred flowers on one trip.
• Back home, bees pass the nectar mouth to mouth, and each bee adds a tiny bit of "bee spit" that changes it.
• It goes into a six-sided wax cup; the wax comes from the bees too, in tiny flakes.
• Nectar is runny because it is mostly water, so the bees fan it with their wings until the water floats away and it gets thick and gold: honey!
• A wax lid keeps it for winter, when there are no flowers.
• One bee makes about one drop of honey in its whole life. More flowers mean more honey.
