Rise above the canals, the crooked gabled houses, and the endless bridges in this cinematic drone journey over Amsterdam. Known as “The Venice of the North,” “Mokum,” and “The City of Canals,” Amsterdam is a place where Golden Age merchants’ houses line the water, where bikes outnumber cars on almost every street, and where a compact, “gezellig” city has charmed visitors for centuries. From above, you can see just how historic, elegant, and full of life this city really is.
Our flight begins over the Canal Ring, the UNESCO World Heritage Site that wraps around the old centre in perfect curves. The Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Prinsengracht glow in the last light of the day, their tall, narrow houses reflected in the still water. Tour boats glide beneath the arched bridges, and tiny cyclists cross them in every direction, a perfect picture of the “city of canals and bridges.”
Next, we drift over the historic centre. Dam Square and the Royal Palace stand at the heart of the city, while the spire of the Westerkerk rises above the Jordaan, one of the most charming old districts in Amsterdam. Nearby, the Oude Kerk, the oldest building in the city, sits quietly among the narrow streets. Further on, the Magere Brug, the Skinny Bridge, lights up over the Amstel River, one of the most photographed sights in the city.
Then we fly south toward Museumplein, where the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum stand beside the wide green lawns. Nearby, Vondelpark spreads out like a green carpet, filled with walkers, cyclists, and picnics on warm days. In spring, the whole region around the city bursts into colour with tulip season, and the flat green landscape stretches out to the horizon, a reminder of how much of the Netherlands lies below sea level.
Finally, we glide north across the IJ to the modern side of Amsterdam. The NEMO Science Museum rises like the bow of a ship from the harbour, and the old docklands are now full of creative spaces, cafés, and new architecture. As darkness falls, the canals light up with warm lamps, the houseboats glow along the water, and the brown cafés fill with the sound of conversation and laughter.
Along the way, you’ll see:

Amsterdam is a city of contrasts. It is a global trading hub and a top startup and tech city, yet it is also home to quiet courtyards, hidden gardens, and centuries-old traditions. It is a foodie’s paradise, from stroopwafels and Dutch pancakes to bitterballen, fresh herring, and fries with mayo. It is the “Cycling Capital of the World,” where bikes are part of everyday life, and where King’s Day on April 27 turns the whole city orange. Liberal, open-minded, and a little chaotic, Amsterdam leaves a lasting impression on everyone who visits.
Whether you’re planning a trip, missing home, or just curious about one of the most charming cities in Europe, we hope this video gives you a new perspective on Amsterdam.
