November 20, 1952 - In just its fourth year of modern existence, the NBA was at a stage where offensive systems largely centered around putting shots on net, quality aside. That's why, despite connecting on .399 percent of his attempts George Mikan still finished 12th in field goal percentage during the 1952-53 season.
Against the Ft. Wayne Pistons, Mikan came through just below his season mark (though a pile of those misses can be attributed to successive tips gone awry). Shooting 12-of-36 from the field (.333), Mikan finished with 32 points in an 89-81 comeback win. For much of the evening, Mikan was defended by fellow all-star Larry Foust (No. 16) and 6-foot-11 Chuck Share.
Finishing second in the league in scoring (20.6), Mikan led the Lakers to their third NBA championship in four years.
