Princess Anne was with her mother when Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral on 8 September 2022, and her name is on the death certificate. She says it was "purely serendipity" that she was there. Later, in a BBC film, she revealed what the Queen had worried about: that a death at Balmoral would make things more difficult, and what the family told her in reply.
This royal documentary follows the Queen's last days in Scotland, from the final photographs and the new Prime Minister on 6 September, to the afternoon at Balmoral, the official record of that afternoon, and Operation Unicorn, the secret plan for a death in Scotland. Then it follows Anne behind her mother's coffin: the six-hour drive to Edinburgh, the curtsey at Holyroodhouse, the Vigil of the Princes at St Giles' Cathedral, and the RAF flight to London.
