MONAD - A standalone groovebox for the Maschine MK3

This is MONAD – my independent, standalone groovebox, played through a Maschine MK3. No computer, no DAW: everything you hear is generated, sequenced and mixed inside the box and comes straight out of the MK3's own outputs. It's been a long journey of building my own instrument from the ground up – synthesis, sampling, sequencing and performance effects, all designed around one idea: something I can just turn on and play. This is a personal project in active development. I’ll be sharing performances, experiments and closer looks at the workflow as it grows. SOUND Eight parts, and any part can be any engine: • Classic drum machine kits and a dedicated kick designer • Acid basslines, punchy percussion synths and polyrhythmic voices • Swarming metallic hits, deep paraphonic pads and evolving resonant drones • A sampler for own sounds • MIDI parts to sequence external synths alongside the internal ones SAMPLING • Sample from line input or resample the groovebox itself • Chop, trim and shape sounds right on the screens SEQUENCING • Step sequencing with per-step velocity, parameter locks and probability • Euclidean rhythms, generative pattern tools, arpeggiator and scales • Live recording from pads and keys • Pattern chaining and an arranger with scenes • LFOs on every part PERFORMANCE • Reverb, delay and granular textures • Filter, EQ, drive and crush on every part • A perform page with the touch strip and 16 effect pads • Mixer with mute and solo Plaits and Cloud engines are built on Émilie Gillet's open-source Mutable Instruments work.
